Ray Bradbury was born on August 22, 1920 in Waukegan, Illinois. He was the third child born to Leonard and Esther Bradbury. At the age of six his family moved to Tucson, Arizona. As a boy, Ray became very intrigued by science fiction stories, horror films, and magic acts. Ray began developing his stories at the age of eleven, and at the age of twelve he had a life-changing event. Ray read a newspaper headline that said "The world would end tomorrow." This title piqued Ray's curiosity and he and his brother camped outside along a cliff to witness the event. As the night wore on with no sign of an end, Ray was disappointed and he and his brother packed their bags and headed home. Ray vowed to separate himself from religion as he felt discouraged, not understanding a god who would provoke his people into pseudo-terrorism. Due to the Depression, Ray's father lost his job in 1932 and the family was forced to move to Los Angeles, California. . At the age of fifteen Ray began submitting his stories to national publications for print. Having no luck with his stories, Ray kept his love and focus on his work. At the age of eighteen Ray graduated from Los Angeles High School. Around the same time Ray founded his own magazine called Futura Fantasia; however, this project only lasted four issues and consisted only of his work. After many attempts to publish his work, Ray finally managed to get one of his stories published on Imagination! Magazine, an amateur magazine. The story was called The Hollerbochen Dilemma and this would have marked a pretty big achievement for Ray Bradbury. During this time Ray worked selling newspapers on street corners in Los Angeles. Bradbury got his first paid publication in 1941 with the...... middle of paper......s Montag and soon joined. of their network of intellectuals. Their goal is to make themselves useful to humanity in the recently declared war. Soon the city is obliterated by enemy jets, and Montag and his new friends go forth to search for survivors and rebuild their city. In this novel Bradbury seems to be inspired by the times in which he lived, including the beginning of the Cold War; however, I feel that Bradbury relied heavily on his imagination. Of course there were many political injustices at the time Bradbury wrote this novel, including racism, war, civil rights, etc. Bradbury appears to be a modern-day visionary. Many of the details he wrote about in this novel have become modern issues surrounding the media's indisputable hold on society. I enjoyed reading this novel and thought it carried with it a great central meaning. A quote that inspired me is:
