The word effective is an adjective that means success in producing a desired or expected result. In writing a persuasive essay, the desired outcome is for readers to agree with the author, or at least put aside their position on the topic and consider the author's statements on the topic. Jeremy Rifkin's essay, “Virtual Realities”, is very effective because he clearly expresses his point of view without abusing the other position, uses facts and appeals to logic and ethics.
