There are many causes of gun violence depending on different people and how they view guns in America. There are two main reasons that influence gun violence: pop culture and lack of parenting. According to the PoliceOne Gun Control Survey, "today's children are more prone to violence due to violent video games and movies." Many video games like Kindergarten Killer, which have been online for years, consist of a caretaker killing children by shooting them in the head and seeing how many points you can get for finishing the game. Just last year, a man walked into an elementary school and shot 26 people, including children. Violence in video games and the media hasn't exactly been presented as a bad thing. It is more praised. Additionally, people who are on parole should not have parents in their children's lives. Rather, whether it is a single-parent home or a two-parent home, they are not present enough in their children's lives. According to PoliceOne Gun's investigation, “In today's world, both parents work, there is no time for the family to teach, learn, love. If parents do not show children love and affection, how can that child grow up and show love to any other person? When you don't care if the person in front of you, next to you, and behind you lives or dies, it's pretty easy to pull the trigger. Many parents are so busy trying to provide that they don't understand that the most important part of raising a child is being in their life to teach them how to treat people properly and show love to that child. For example, where I come from there is more gang violence than anything else. A twelve year old boy runs around swearing, being disrespectful, and looking for an adult role model who appears to be someone affiliated with a gang... middle of paper... unable to even make him understand what the law means. So, I believe the steps taken are in the right direction. I believe gun violence can be reduced in the United States through three steps: more gun control restrictions, more tracking of gun owners, and increased security. There are many gun shops that are not closely monitored by the government. The government or private company supplying the guns needs to know how many guns (type) they are giving to a specific gun shop and what restrictions are placed on who can get them. This will make it easier to understand who the weapons are being sold to and whether the shop is doing illegal things. Finally, we need greater security in schools and more frequent checks of lockers. There are too many school shootings today that could have been prevented. I don't think my three steps will stop gun violence, but they would reduce it.
