The Door phase 1 preparationsIn the short story “The Door” by author EB White, he recounts one of the experiments he conducted with one of his personal experiences. This was done in a controlled environment, the purpose of this task was to create an alternate reality. An alternate reality is to simulate a replacement of what can be considered reality itself. To realize this alternative reality the experiment will have to require an enclosure, in other words a rectangular prism whose walls will be high enough to prevent the rats from escaping. Not to mention that two other important materials are needed to complete the experiment which includes a mouse and food for it. Then the food will be placed behind one of the three adjoining chambers of the enclosure. All three doors will be closed but unlocked, each with its own sign on it that includes a circle, a square, and a triangle. The rat will then be placed inside the enclosure, signifying that the experiment has begun. This experiment will be repeated several times until an alternate reality is created. Setting up this alternate reality will require three steps. In the first phase the rat will be placed in an open area of the enclosure. While the mouse is in this enclosure, all doors will be open. Then, when the mouse is hungry, the food will be placed behind the door with the circle. Immediately afterwards the rat will try to find this food and will use the process of elimination to do so. Until the mouse finally finds the food he was looking for, that is, food. This part of the phase will be repeated until the mouse understands that the circle equals food. Thus giving him a specific memory that will later help create this alternate reality. Phase 2 will begin soon after. Where the rat's motor memory will be eliminated so that the rat must rely entirely on its visual image of the circle. The only difference in this stage is that the symbols will be changed after each route. Unlike phase 1 where the circle was positioned in the center of the other two doors. Then the mouse is placed back in the enclosure once again and the mouse finds itself using trail and error. Until the mouse starts to realize that this process doesn't work because the symbol keeps moving.
