Topic > Diversity and inequality in the United States - 875

Our book opens us to the world of diversity and inequality in the United States. It insists on issues related to groups maintaining superiority over inferior groups for multiple reasons. In “Imagine Our Country,” our book openly highlights America's problems and how in some cases we are only making them more likely to continue. It helps define the differences between racism and discrimination, which I never thought about enough to distinguish before taking this course. These chapters also offer hope and ways to combat these differences, because even though we may be stuck in a social loophole, there are ways available to challenge them and make society aware of the changes and act accordingly! There are two groups of people, those who belong to the dominant group and those who belong to the subordinate group. The positioning of this group can be temporary or permanent depending on the social context. Temporary inequality mainly takes into account status or power, defined as the relationship of dominance with age or profession. The superior in this case has the quality to impart to the minor. However, the smaller part retains the same value as the higher part and equality develops between both parts. While permanent inequality is ALL about status and power. In this group there is a clear difference between the value of the dominant group and that of the subordinate groups. Dominant groups do their part by influencing and promoting negative associations with subordinates. The dominant labels subordinates as ineffective or incapable as a way to justify blocking opportunities for all people. In some cases subordinates will respond to this with internalized oppression. In a system like this subordinates often develop skills and adapt to the ways of dominant groups, often learning more about the dominant class than vice versa. Although many experts in the field of “subordinate groups” derive from dominant groups. “Imagine a country” opened my eyes. He has openly declared discrimination and prejudice directed towards a variety of groups. A huge predecessor and topic I will focus on is wages. Claiming that the United States requires people to work for a living while denying them minimum wage. It highlighted an important fact about how families usually depend on paying for healthcare or child care. I was a teacher's assistant and reading this really shed some light on how women are treated in the workforce.
