Topic > Teacher stress: impact on performance and retention
Buchanan et al. (2013) interviewed teachers in their first, second and fourth years of teaching. In addition to commonly known factors such as excessive workloads and student behavior, early career teachers have reported feeling physically and emotionally isolated. The strength of this study is that it studied teachers at different points in their careers in the early years. While this was a good way to identify changing trends in stressors in the early years, the long-term nature of the study made it difficult to retain study participants. In the final year of the study, only 14 participants remained as the others withdrew from the study
