Euthanasia is the premature end of a life to avoid suffering. By all accounts it is illegal in every country except Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Euthanasia should not be confused with medically assisted suicide due to the fundamental difference which is the self-administration of the lethal drug by the patient himself. The society that supports euthanasia is pro-Choice while those who are against it are pro-life because they believe that every life is precious. I support the pro-Choice arguments for legalizing euthanasia for these main reasons. First, it is clear that euthanasia should be legal as it is a means of ending a patient's suffering quickly and humanely with or without the consent of the affected party. According to a series of statistics on euthanasia verified in the last quarter of 2013, 86% of the population is in favor of euthanasia, especially if the patient is terminally ill or alive. This big difference between Pro-Choice and Pro-Life indicates that euthanasia plays a significant role at the end of the life of a seriously ill person because death is usually slow, painful and undignified. I believe that euthanasia not only helps patients who are dying, but also assists their family members by shortening their pain. If domestic animals can be euthanized to end their suffering, why can't the same kindness be extended to humans? The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) declared in 1996 that every human being should be granted the right to die because they “have a protected liberty interest in choosing to end intolerable suffering.” I believe in letting people choose what they want to do with their lives; whether to continue living in pain or end it soon. Secondly, legalize euthanasis...... at the heart of the paper ......respecting the autonomy of patients and, ultimately, making death with dignity possible. I am a supporter of legalizing euthanasia globally as I believe it will help not in quantity but in the quality of life of patients and their families. Works Cited1.
