Topic > Gun Control and Why We Shouldn't Have It - 1098

“Guns are not the problem. We are the problem” (Kieta Shimizu). On the topic of gun control there are undoubtedly many arguments that can be made for both sides of the coin. In this essay you will hopefully learn why we do not need gun control in the great country that is the United States of America. Three main topics will be covered: the effects of private gun ownership, gun control in society, and guns and their use. Private gun ownership does not pose a serious threat to society, but provides an effective means of self-defense.I. Private Gun Ownership Personal protection comes from private gun ownership. There are numerous accounts of firearms keeping attackers away (Lott 89). In most cases, when someone pulls out a gun it is to fend off an attacker and nothing else needs to happen (Lott 89). Both are easily visible because of each other. if someone pulls out a gun and an attack scares the attacker, I would say the gun has become an effective means of self-defense. Guns can also be used to protect not only a single person but also an entire company. Privately owned guns help private companies prevent crime. The convicted criminals admit that they changed their tactics to prevent the firefight (Lott 91). Lott states that criminals tend to avoid people who are more likely to have guns such as taxi drivers and drug dealers (91). if you were to look at armed robbery as a job, so to speak, the robber's main goal is to get the job done with little weather problems being seen, police running into, or even getting hurt. They are trying to prevent these things because if any of these things were to happen it would cost them money or their freedom; therefore keep away from an affair that has a gu...... middle of paper...... attacking and fleeing (Bernards 59). if gun owners were properly trained and informed they would be aware that they can reduce crime and keep themselves safe; this would decrease gun violence and help the government realize that we potentially need guns. All because some people are a little more knowledgeable. Private gun ownership does not pose a serious threat to society; however, it provides effective means of self-defense for citizens and private businesses. In retrospect, there are certainly some potentially bad things that can happen without gun control, without a doubt. However, the cons of having gun control weigh heavily on the pros. If you look at the statistics, the main things that need to happen to keep society safe, if really inform society, so many crimes could be prevented if people knew what they were doing behind the trigger of a gun.
