Arguing that their inaction was immoral with respect to their responsibilities as a community will not offer a refutation to the argument that people do not help their fellow man. Social proof and pluralistic ignorance give us a kind of reconciliation in the contradiction of Kitty's case. How a bunch of decent people didn't help. They had a moral responsibility to do something, as long as they were doing something to help the person upon whom they were fulfilling their responsibility and obligation to do.
