John Rawls' views on justice have much in common with the philosophical theories of Karl Marx. First of all, Rawls rejects the utilitarian point of view when it comes to justice. While utilitarianism would see justice as what is for the general good of society, Rawls would see it as what is for the general good of everyone equally. Rawls's view of justice also derives from his principle of equal liberty, which suggests that every human being should be entitled to equal liberty in a just society. Without this principle, in Rawls's eyes no society can be considered just. From that point on, Rawls placed a heavy burden on the shoulders of the state when it came to ensuring equal liberties for individuals. Rawls would also consider the redistribution of wealth fair. When it comes to Robert Nozick's views on justice, Rawls and he share some points but differ on others.
