Alcoholism is a serious problem in today's world. The National Institutes of Health reports that 15% of people in the United States have a drinking problem. As a child I witnessed a family disorder due to alcohol abuse. I will never forget that feeling of fear of knowing something bad could happen. Having experienced this situation, I decided to analyze the image that conveys a message from Alcoholics Anonymous; which is a very popular association of people who share their experiences to help others recover from alcoholism. The analyzed image shows completely destroyed baby shoes. The shoes are located on the floor inside the house. At the bottom of the image is the logo of Alcoholics Anonymous. The author appeals to pathos, logos, and ethics to encourage people to join the AA group. The small pink girl's shoes that the viewer can see in the center of the image imply pathos. First, children's shoes highlight the negative effects of alcoholism on the family. Above all, the worst victims of this addiction are innocent children. Even the child's shoes arouse strong emotions in the viewer. It brings the feeling of sadness and injustice. For example, if an adult's shoe were presented, it would not be as affective. Why are the shoes broken? Many people want to have children of their own but unfortunately cannot have them. So why do some people harm defenseless children? Domestic violence causes numerous behavioral and emotional problems among children who experience it. These shoes are unusual because they are made of glass. Broken glass implies that alcoholism in the family destroys the family. Even if the broken glass is glued, there will be… half of paper… the step to take is to realize that a drinker is addicted to alcohol. Next, members share their stories about their past, present and future lives. People can learn from the mistakes of others; these people also understand each other because their experiences are similar. They can support each other in difficult times. The AA program provides self-examination, a way to survive without alcohol. I believe this Alcohol Anonymous ad is effective because it appeals to the viewer's logo, pathos, and ethics. It is also aimed at people dependent on alcohol and their families. Children's shoes highlight the negative effects of alcohol abuse for an addict and the people around him. However, it also offers the possibility of a better life by joining the organization Alcoholics Anonymous. It's a great opportunity to start a new life and free yourself from alcohol.
