Topic > Architects: Building the future - 803

What do architects do? Architects are responsible for designing places to live, work, play, learn, shop and eat (“Architects” BLS). Now, obviously, Architect wasn't the first career that came to mind; first I wanted to be president, then I wanted to join the army. Obviously I can't be President of the United States yet and would rather not pursue a military career. Then one day in New York, while I was on vacation, I saw the construction of the new twin towers. They were beautiful, so I told myself that one day I wanted to design something like that. So I decided to do some research on architecture. According to the Working Skills Inventory, I test high in information and data management, as well as mechanical categories for architecture. I think if I put in the work I can become a fantastic architect! “Architects design homes, schools, churches, office buildings, apartment complexes, and shopping centers” (“Architects” Wis Careers). Architects work with clients to design their hopes and dreams and prepare contracts and documents for construction workers, and visit construction sites to ensure building construction is proceeding according to plan ("Architects" BLS). Architects must be able to communicate with their clients and building managers, which is why several high school courses would be beneficial for this field of work. Some of the courses to take would be “calculus, drafting, geology, geometry, and advanced trigonometry/algebra” (“Architects” Wis Careers). Architecture requires schooling even after high school, so most architects earn a five-year degree in the field without any prior experience in architecture. However, many earn a master's degree which can take anywhere from one to five years of...... middle of paper ...... to be creative and perhaps break the box with their projects and create something completely new and different ("Architects" Wis Careers). If someone had asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up, I could have indicated numerous completely ridiculous and scandalous occupations! As I have matured and grown, I have realized what I like and what I don't like. I like to be creative and design things to help people with their problems and situations. Why not become an architect and do both at the same time while being paid well enough to support myself and my family? Works Cited "Architects". What architects do (2014): n.pag.
