The Westboro Church located in Topeka, Kansas, is a very small homophobic and anti-Semitic group that regularly organizes protests across the country. The group began as a nonprofit organization in 1967. Westboro Baptist Church consists of its pastor and some of his children and grandchildren. The Westboro Baptist Church is well known for picketing and/or events they see in support of homosexuals or Jews. This group is made up of a few people. Those who have children teach them to hate gays or Jews. They want their children to picket signs and support them in public places, and even at the funerals of people who died in plane crashes, and of American soldiers who died for us in Iraq and Afghanistan. Other people target schools and groups that accept homosexuality: Catholic, Lutheran and other Christian places that the WBC deems heretical. This group is one of the most hated groups in America! Westboro Baptist Church began as a non-profit organization in 1967. They consider themselves an "old school" Baptist church. Their leader Fred Phelps and many of his children and dozens of his grandchildren. They appear to make up the majority of their group members. They have no official affiliation with major Baptist organizations. Pastor Fred Phelps was born as the eldest son of Catherine Johnston and Fred Phelps in Meridian, Mississippi in 1929. He was raised by his aunt after his mother's death. During his high school years he participated in Boy Scouts, school band and newspaper, the school track and boxing team, a local Methodist church, and the Junior State Guard. They say the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States happened because God wanted America to get into a war they couldn't win. They say every judgment because of support for homosexuality or Jews, or because of the attacks on the Westboro Baptist Church. The Westboro Baptist Church began as "God Hates Fags" and has now grown into a complete inclusion of almost every group, nation and person. who is not involved in Westboro Baptist Church. They are quick to say that God hates everyone who doesn't believe exactly what they do. The Westboro Baptist Church has been banned from other countries because of its hatred. In 2008 the church announced it would protest the funeral of a man beheaded on a Greyhound bus in Canada. For this reason, Canada has banned members of the group from entering their country.
