Topic > The Inventions of Thomas Alva Edison by Thomas Edison

Can you imagine what it would be like if there were no light bulbs? I don't think you can. You should light your home with candles and lanterns. You have me, Thomas Edison, to thank for this invention. I have made some very important inventions in my life, including the electric light bulb and the phonograph. These were two of my most famous inventions. I've also made other inventions that you may not be aware of. I had some important inventions that everyone knew and used. Even though I had some great inventions, they weren't actually all mine. I have been credited with some of Nikola Tesla's inventions. While I will take credit for these inventions, I know I didn't make them. Now let me give you an overview of my life. I, Thomas Alva Edison, was born in Milan, Ohio, February 11, 1847. I had seven brothers who were all older than him. My parents were busy people. My father, Samuel, owned a lumber factory. My mother, Nancy, was a school teacher. I went to school in Michigan, but in my entire life I only went to school for no more than three months. Then I was homeschooled by my mother. When I turned thirteen I got my first job as a journalist. Since I was a journalist working at the railroad, I created my own laboratory that I could access from the railroad. I also saved the life of a child who was almost hit by a train. I opened my very first lab in Newark, New Jersey. I had more than 300 workers working in this workshop. After opening this lab, I created a second one. This second laboratory was in Menlo Park, New Jersey. This was probably the most important laboratory of my life because in this laboratory I created some of my most famous and most used inventions. Some of these inventions that I made here were the… middle of paper… that I did, but I was the one who invented it first. Today I have a huge impact on the world. Thanks to me, you have light bulbs that light up your home. Without light bulbs we could still use candles or lanterns as we did before electric light bulbs existed. I also had a huge impact on science. Thanks to my inventions, people can improve them to make them better. For example, when I made the phonograph, it was good, but people improved to improve it and make it more useful. Same goes for the electric light bulb, it worked when I made this invention, but people have made it better and more useful throughout history. My legacy of the light bulb was very important because even though you probably don't think of me when you flip the switch and turn on the lights, I was the one who gave you the wonderful invention of the light bulb.
