1.0 Introduction The purpose of this report is to investigate the different views and opinions on the safety and cost-effectiveness of nuclear energy compared to other forms of energy . This report will explain the issues and context of the debate, the importance of the issue and the parties involved in this debate with their thoughts.2.0 The issues and context of the debate Nuclear energy is produced during the process called nuclear fission or nuclear fusion. The development of nuclear energy began in the 20th century and now there is worldwide recognition for the use of nuclear energy. Popular countries using nuclear energy are the United States, France, Japan and Russia, nuclear energy generates up to 6% of the world's electricity supplies. Although energy is mainly used by many countries, it can cause side effects to living things in the environment. (WNA, 2012)3.0 The social significance of the debateThe world needs renewable energy because none of the currently preferred energy sources are unlimited. At the rate at which people use fossil fuels, one day they will run out, so we need to find alternatives now, before it's too late. The world needs a type of energy that does not pollute the environment. Instead of burning fossil fuels to generate energy, nuclear energy is produced during nuclear reactions. Therefore, it has one major advantage over traditional coal-fired power plants. (Pandita, 2011) So, should nuclear energy be used to generate electricity? 4.0 Participants in the debateThe main parties associated with the debate are governments, experts and the rural population. These people have been expressing their opinions on the effects of nuclear energy... middle of the paper... for more than a hundred thousand years. (Lindsay, 2002) The 1986 Chernobyl accident, which did not take the right safety measures by the power plant operator, caused the nuclear power plant to release radiation. There were more than 30 people found dead in this accident blamed on radiation exposure. (WNA, 2012; USNRC, 2011)6.0 ConclusionIn conclusion, there are different opinions on the issue of using nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is just one of many energy options. Nuclear energy can reduce environmental pollution because it does not produce harmful gases like other plants do. However, there are also drawbacks that can affect human health by emitting radioactive substances. Therefore, all parties should carry out more in-depth topic-based research and analysis to decide the use of nuclear energy as a safe and cost-effective energy source..
