There are many reasons why parents choose to homeschool their children. Although it has been stated that the dropout rate is higher than that of public schools, it has been proven by the NHERI (National Home Education Research Institute) that home-schooled children have a higher success rate in college education . NHERI conducts, collects and provides research on homeschooling and publishes the information in the Home School Researcher Journal. Homeschooling has become very popular, and some people believe it provides a better education. Many successful former students who achieved extraordinary results were homeschooled. There is Thomas Edison, responsible for carbon, the telephone and batteries. He began homeschooling at age 12 after a teacher told him he would slow down. Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th president of the United States. He was home-schooled after frequent illnesses and went on to attend Columbia Law School. Serena Williams is a tennis champion and started home schooling as a teenager to focus on her training. Now it helps disadvantaged people around the world get education. Many children throughout history have been homeschooled and have become very successful members of society. Whether you help an unfortunate person, a tennis player or a president, they all play a supporting role in society. While homeschooling has almost always been an option for parents around the world, it has become more socially acceptable in recent years. There have been more research centers and child advocacy groups conducting research on the level of social skills in home-schooled children than ever before. This is useful for home school programs, as it can provide them with information and recommendations on things to change to benefit... middle of paper... active members of society. The various social activities provided by homeschooling programs prevent children from becoming antisocial and give them the same sense of belonging that public school gives children.
