PovertyImagine living on less than two dollars. For two dollars a day you can get a cheeseburger and a side of fries at McDonald's. Two dollars can buy you a sandwich at Subway. $2 CANNOT provide the essential nutrients and food a person needs in a day. Many people don't know the right meaning of poverty. Poverty is different in every part of the world you go to. Many people think that the meaning of poverty is when someone is very poor. That's true, but it has a deeper meaning than just being poor. Poverty is when a person cannot provide for themselves or their family. Absolute poverty is a current definition of poverty used throughout the world. Absolute poverty occurs when a person can live on less than $2 a day. This means that every day people living in absolute poverty only have to spend on average less than $2 a day on everything they do. This means food, water and electricity. Poverty is the cause of 21,000 deaths a day. This is 7,665,000 people per year, including many children who do not even have the possibility of finding a job to provide for their livelihood. Every 4 seconds a child dies of hunger. It is extremely sad to think that every 4 seconds a public school student is suspended. Poverty in AfricaThere is more poverty in Africa than anywhere else. This is where most people think poverty happens. Africa is also the stereotypical situation of poverty. Around 40% of Africa is affected by poverty. This is the worst case of poverty ever seen in the world. There are many things that cause poverty in Africa. The main reason is that the rich in Africa monopolize all the money and resources, causing a country where there are rich and poor, there is... half the paper... or have money. These homeless people are usually not dependent on the government and live using the money they get from begging. They live in absolute poverty. Another type of poverty in America is living on welfare. Welfare collectors receive money from the U.S. government to spend on food and other things needed to live. These people usually have a home but cannot find a job, or are unwilling to find one because they have many children. This is another much despised type of poverty.
