However, recently, the rate of development experienced in China has been appalling; there are statistics showing that China's gross domestic product (GDP) is so high that it could surpass that of the United States in a few years. The concern, however, is that China is underdeveloped and not mature enough to handle the responsibility of becoming a superpower. Some politicians in the United States have claimed that China is increasingly assertive and have perpetuated this claim (Acemoglu and James 34). They also indicate that an assertive China is likely to support violent regimes in its own interest, threaten war, and support policies that do not depict international cooperation while ignoring global goals such as environmental sustainability and public health. Any country that achieves the position of a superpower should be able to assume the responsibilities associated with a superpower, particularly promoting global peace and international cooperation. China is proving to be a dangerous superpower because its ideologies and policies on international issues do not show a rational superpower. In the book Why Nations Fail, Acemoglu and James (20) argue that Chinese leaders are “extractive” characterized by corruption and parasitism. . They proceed by predicting a decline in Chinese economic growth. This is different from the “inclusive” policies and government institutions of the United States that have helped strengthen nations around the world while promoting international peace and cooperation. The main concern is the one-party rule in China, which is considered...... middle of paper... and ideologies. Its system of government is worrisome and the trend the nation is taking seems to be headed towards disaster rather than security (Kenny). China is proving to be a dangerous superpower because its ideologies and policies on international affairs do not portray a rational superpower. A superpower has the responsibility to unite nations and promote peace because it is recognized throughout the world and other nations are willing to listen to the superpower. China has portrayed negativity and lack of interest in uniting the world, but has instead taken war- and terror-oriented actions around the world. Furthermore, he went against the moral expectations of all nations by supporting countries that violate human rights. China's leaders need to reevaluate their actions and ensure they live up to their responsibilities as a future superpower.
