Agatha Christie is one of the most famous writers of all time. He wrote more than ninety-six novels. He wrote several plays and seventeen of his novels were turned into major stage productions; and also following the theatrical productions they were then transposed into films. Christie is widely known as the "Queen of Crime". His work is very familiar to most literary scholars due to its complexity and mystery of the book; keeps you guessing the entire book until the last pages, often referred to as "mysteries". Agatha May Clarissa Miller was born on September 15, 1890. She was born in Torquay, United Kingdom. She was the youngest of her siblings, including an older brother and sister. Christie and her older sister remained at home while "Agatha's brother was sent to boarding school at an early age" (Smaridge 81). Agatha and her sister could not go to school because it was very rare for girls in those years to go to school. Instead they had a guardian, also known as a governess, who came to their home and helped them receive some form of education. Shortly after her brother was sent to boarding school, Agatha's mother found it necessary for her sister to be sent to an all-girls school. also the college. Luckily for Agatha her mother chose to keep her at home and become her personal tutor. As Smaridge says, “…her mother, who thought her daughters were capable of anything, did not believe in aimless dreams, even when a child was ill” (82).
