Like most films based on novels, there are some substantial differences between the written and film versions of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. There are also many similarities, otherwise it wouldn't be The Chronicles of Narnia. The similarities and differences may be due to artistic differences, for example the way one person interprets something may not be the way another interprets it, budget reasoning, or it may simply have to do with the timeline of resumed. Since most films are not made by the author of the book, it can be extremely difficult for a film director and writer to completely capture the book on film. Another thing that might make transcribing the book onto film difficult is the fact that the book was published in 1950 while the film was released in 2005 (IMBd). Who is the author of this magnificent book? Clive Staples Lewis was born in 1898 and grew up in Belfast, Ireland, where he liked to be imaginative, creating worlds of talking animals, much like that of Narnia. When Lewis was in his forties and fifties he became an extremely popular writer and a renowned scholar and critic (Bell 12). Lewis was born to a Protestant family although around the age of fifteen he abandoned his faith and became an atheist. At the age of 31 Lewis, with the encouragement of friends, again accepted God into this heart. Lewis attended University College, Oxford in 1916 during the First World War. Because Lewis was of Irish descent, he was exempt from the draft but enlisted anyway. After returning from the army in 1918 Lewis returned to school and work. Lewis taught at Magdalen College, Oxford for almost 30 years and was the first professor of medieval and Renaissance literature to...... middle of paper ...... to any other child reading book through film makes the whole thing seem like a fairy tale, aside from Narnia itself. Some characters just didn't live up to their full potential, for example, Susan's character in the book is brave and brave and in the movie she doesn't act that brave or courageous at all.
