Designer DiamondsDiamond mining in Africa has turned many parts of the country into a war zone, especially Sierra Leone and Sierra Leone. Many people were injured and homeless, people were captured by rebel groups and turned into slaves. Forced to mine diamonds against their will. The civil war had been going on for ten years, for many children mining became a way of life and many of them were turned into child soldiers. The rebels used diamonds as a means of paying for weapons and other machinery; it was a quick and easy payment. This is where the name "Blood Diamonds" comes from; diamonds were mined through slavery, violence and bloodshed. Artificial Diamonds Artificial diamonds can be made in different ways such as the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method or the High Pressure, High Temperature (HTHP) method. Both of these methods are very complicated. Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) is produced by many companies including one called Element Six, these man-made diamonds are used in a wide range of technologies such as; electronics, sensors, lasers and thermal management. They are built in a vacuum system which allows it to be below average atmospheric pressure. Methane gas then provides the carbon atoms needed for this process. Because they are able to control the purity of the gas, the CVD method is a very effective method for producing artificial diamonds. The other method, called HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature), is more commonly used than chemical vapor deposition because it is much cheaper to finance. There are several ways to make artificial diamonds using HTHP, but the BELT pressing system and the BARS pressing system are the two most commonly used. The BELT system is used by m...... half the paper......, authentic plus diamonds. Diamond mining has provided jobs over the years, meaning that people who relied on mining for income would be out of work over time. If man-made diamonds completely replaced natural diamonds, Africa's economy would suffer because diamond mining has been the country's source of income for many years. The diamonds helped fund one of Botswana's largest HIV/AIDS programs, aimed at preventing and treating the disease. “Out of a population of 1.6 million people, approximately 37% suffer from HIV or AIDS.” Although man-made diamonds are very popular when it comes to science and the evolution of technology, for some people like; collectors and jewelers may think that artificial diamonds do not look like real diamonds and are not authentic enough. Which could affect their sales.
