Topic ExplanationsDomino TheoryThe Domino Theory was the theory formulated about the spread of communism. According to the Domino Theory, if a state or country became communist, neighboring countries would follow in its footsteps and become communist themselves. This theory has a very great historical value because it is the only reason for the involvement of the United States of America in Vietnam. They thought that once Vietnam became communist, Laos would also become communist, and soon after, Cambodia would too. Velvet Revolution The Velvet Revolution took place in Czechoslovakia and lasted from November 17 to December 29, 1989. The Velvet Revolution is also known as the Gentle Revolution and was when the Czechoslovakian people had non-violent protests. For example, instead of fighting riot police, they faced armed policemen with flowers. The revolution began because people wanted change and were tired of communist rule in Czechoslovakia. The result of the revolution changed Czechoslovakia from a communist to a parliamentary republic and ended the 41-year communist regime. Viet Minh The Viet Minh was an organization that fought for the Vietnamese to gain independence from French rule. The Viet Minh was originally formed by Ho Chi Minh and was led primarily by communists. In English, Viet Minh means “League for the Independence of Vietnam”. In the Vietnam War the United States of America faced the Viet Cong and the Viet Minh and both used gorilla tactics to repel the American soldiers. The Viet Minh and Viet Cong both fought for a communist government and fought American soldiers even though the odds were stacked against them. Afghanistan On December 27, 1979 the Soviets invaded Afghanistan...... middle of paper.... .. War was about building weapons and never using them. Afghanistan Once the Soviets killed the Marxist head of state in Afghanistan and everyone realized that the new communist government was a puppet government, people started to realize that this new government was no good. “There is a dead end waiting” can be linked to the feelings of Afghan citizens because they realize that there is no easy way out of this Soviet-installed puppet government. The Mujahedeen were supported and supplied by Pakistan, the United States, the United Kingdom, China and Saudi Arabia as they fought against the Soviets to stop them from spreading communism. I think one of the reasons why many countries gave the mujahideen so much support is because they felt that communism was spreading to many different places: "everywhere you look there is a devil waiting"”.
