Abraham Lincoln (12 February 1809 – 15 April 1865) the sixteenth president (civilwar.org) of the United States of America was one of the main public figures who influenced the Civil War in many respects. While the Civil War may have been the nation's last resort, it could be argued that Lincoln's governments did their best to find a different solution. The Civil War was a conflict that destroyed the nation; perhaps it could have been avoided if the second part had worked towards a solution. But it is true that perhaps both sides could have thought of the benefits of the people as a whole instead of personal advantages. Lincoln's main positive effect on the Civil War was actually before and during the war, when Lincoln's government made many attempts to prevent the conflict, and when it began made the right decisions to win the war. One of the major effects on the Civil War was the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, which gave freedom to slaves. Many would agree that Abraham's Lincoln effect on the Civil War was positive, but Lincoln also made many mistakes or misjudgments during the war. Perhaps the biggest mistake Lincoln made was underestimating the South, resulting in many needless deaths. It has also had misjudgments causing many casualties. Since the beginning of time humanity has fought for what they thought was right. On April 12, 1861 (civilwar.org) the United States began a struggle for civil and moral rights, a civil war that was perhaps the last option for a country to reunite its values. Abraham Lincoln was the president of the time and the person who most influenced the course of the war. I firmly believe that Lincoln's decisions influence or have had more positive effects on the country. Being the president in times like the Civil War is undoubtedly one of the most difficult jobs, and one way or another there will be right and wrong decisions, but I agree that President Lincoln did what he thought was best at this moment. The Civil War was perhaps the nation's last resort, yet Lincoln's government did everything it could to prevent conflict. Unfortunately, sooner or later the war would have broken out with or without Lincoln; there was a lot of tension in the nation before Lincoln's election.
