Massively Multiplayer Online Game or MMOG is an online game that incorporates more than two people at the same time in a coherent or constant virtual world. “These worlds are the dreams of science fiction writers and are played by players who would sometimes be willing to pay a monthly fee.” (Gamespy) Every year a new generation of MMOGs comes forward, some stand out while others get swept away by old favorites. In the past, MMOGs were simple two-dimensional pixels, until later years. The coding and development process improved graphics by transforming the old, but still commonly used, two-dimensional, three-dimensional, or 3D, pixel graphics. Older MMOGs were a variation of two-dimensional and early three-dimensional elements. The oldest of these was HABITAT; “The first graphical online virtual world that welcomed many players, over 16 years old, was HABITAT, and this happened in the mid-eighties” (Game Spy Staff). After the creation of HABITAT, other online services came to life. These services were known as Imagination Network [formerly known as Sierra Network] and Genie. These two companies produced games like Yserbius and Air Warrior, although neither of these games were true online games. Honestly the very first MMOG was known as Meridian 59. Meridian 59 was produced by an outside company and was released in 1996. M59 incorporated a large amount of players into one constant virtual world. After Meridian 59 came Ultima Online. UO was a massively multiplayer online role-playing game or MMORPG with 2.5-dimensional top-down graphics. Although UO was released just a year after Meridian 59, it still showed how much MMOGs have improved, but compared to modern MMOGs they were nothing. The 2003 games are a good example. The game known as Endless Ages has pretty good graphics compared to the 2007 games and is still pretty fun. According to players, however, some of the monsters you are supposed to fight, "Look like they crawled out of the pages of a Dr. Seuss book!" (Gamespy). The MMOG known as Planet Side is a truly interactive online game produced by Sony Online Entertainment or SOE. It was said that Planet Side was a very good game. In the MMOG industry there are three major companies: BioWare, Blizzard and Electronic Arts. BIOWARE is an electronic entertainment company
