Magical realism, the term itself is a contradiction. When you think of reality, magic usually doesn't come to mind. It is a literary style that dances on the edge of reality and a completely different world. We see extraordinary things, but in completely ordinary contexts. Magical realism is a metaphor because it associates the word magical with something non-magical like realism. It makes us wonder what reality really is, we are exposed to something completely foreign and we need to make something out of it. So, magical realism. It is impossible to see magical realism as fantasy, we are absorbed in the thought that magical events are as normal as taking the bus or walking a dog. The author doesn't make us understand that something different is happening, we don't see it, we just see normal people. This is what magical realism means.
