IntroductionCapital punishment/capital punishment and the Christian attitude towards it has been a topic that has been and is still under discussion today. Punishment, but particularly capital punishment, is a complicated topic to discuss, especially when it comes to Christian attitudes and ethics towards it. The purpose of this report is for people to better understand what this Christian attitude or what these Christian attitudes towards capital punishment/punishment are in relation to Christian ethics. In this report you will learn about the history of capital punishment, the different Christian groups against capital punishment and what the Bible also says about it, all in relation to Christian ethics. BodyHistory Capital punishment was an important part of the justice system of Old Testament Israel. At the time, the Christian ethic towards capital punishment was that it was just. Death was the result of people committing serious civil crimes such as murder and rape. This also applied to crimes against the holiness of God, such as false prophecy and witchcraft. There were procedures put in place to stop capital punishment, and God occasionally spared the lives of people whose actions would have meant death. However, there were Christians who recognized that capital punishment was wrong from the dawn of history: pre-Reformation Christians in the 1400s emphasized Christ's instruction to "turn the other cheek" and therefore opposed capital punishment. But, throughout much of history, Christians recognized that capital punishment was necessary to control society. For example, Pope Innocent III put forward the proposition that: "The secular power can, without mortal sin, exercise blood judgment, provide... middle of paper...Most Anglicans and ProtestantsMost Anglicans and Protestants have opposed capital punishment since the 1960s. In relation to Christian ethics, both denominations claim that capital punishment is wrong. Conclusion The Christian attitude towards capital punishment is still a subject of debate today relation to Christian attitudes. the purpose of the report was to find out what these Christian attitudes are and it emerged from the report that there are many on punishment/capital punishment. I discussed the history of Capital Punishment, the different Christian groups against it, such as the Bible is divided on attitude towards capital punishment with the Old Testament in favor and the New Testament having a mix of both sides and Christian ethics relating to all areas.
