One person dies every six seconds from a tobacco-related illness, which translates to a shocking amount of ten deaths per minute. Nicotine is the main addictive ingredient in tobacco. Sensation and pleasure are the two parts of the brain that are activated by the use of nicotine. It only takes a few minutes for the effects of nicotine to wear off. This causes the smoker to take another puff to continue feeling good. Within seconds it enters the brain causing the release of adrenaline, which in return causes a buzz of pleasure and energy. This may lead the individual to light up another cigarette due to the body having developed a high tolerance to nicotine. This cycle will continue to repeat causing addiction.
