Critique of Qualitative ResearchThere are many differences between quantitative and qualitative research. Things like: Quantitative research only provides variables that can predict specific outcomes but doesn't tell us much about how the variables influence the course of an individual's life. Qualitative research negatively provides an enriched understanding of characteristics, qualities, attributes, and environmental factors that influence life events. Qualitative analysis can help you understand the meaning of a specific feature, entity, or phenomenon within a context, rather than just measuring what is present. “The purpose of this qualitative analysis is fivefold: to explore the ways in which the qualitative data supports and/or validates the quantitative data; gain a richer and deeper understanding of the attributes of success from the participants' perspective; identify specific components of success attributes and their importance in discriminating between successful and unsuccessful groups; highlight qualitative changes over time from year 10 to year 20; to discover themes other than success attributes that show commonalities among informants. (Goldberg, Higgins, Raskind, & Herman, 2003, p. 223). Study Context This longitudinal study was conducted by the Frostig Center in Pasadena, California. The study followed the lives of a group of individuals with a learning disability diagnosed in childhood and who attended the center between 1968 and 1975. Participants in this study were defined as "successful" or "unsuccessful". successful", multidimensionality was measured including eight different domains: education, family relationships, crime/substance abuse, psychological health, and...... middle of the sheet ...... and all the information for their study thoroughly describe the reasoning for performing a qualitative analysis and the differences between that analysis and the previous quantitative analysis performed. All in all I would say that this study could be read by anyone and be understood, which is good for parents of children with learning disabilities. Parents' ability to read and understand articles helps provide them with information to better raise their children; knowledge is power. I honestly cannot find any limitations or errors made in this study that were not addressed by the authors. Works Cited Goldberg, R., Higgins, E., Raskind, M., & Herman, K. (2003).
