The Ten Commandments and their impact on the United States today In a country where Christianity is the prevalent religion, it is demoralizing to know that Americans are more familiar with the ingredients of Big McDonald's Mac than the most important biblical principles ever written. The Ten Commandments are much more than a few biblical guidelines; they are the basis of our nation's legal system. Our Founding Fathers went out of their way, time and time again, to acknowledge God four times in the Declaration of Independence, yet people of this day and age believe that Christ's words simply no longer apply. The Ten Commandments not only had a lasting impact on the Christian faith, but also laid the foundation for the legal system we all follow as a nation. Christianity is a religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, known as the Son of God and “the Anointed One.” It teaches us that there is and continues to exist only one divine God of our universe who died on the cross for our sins. All of us, as human beings, live in a broken world where only He can save us. Through a combination of reading passages from the Bible, collecting Christian scriptures, prayer and worship one can achieve salvation and live with him in the eternal kingdom of heaven. Christianity is based on having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, our savior. Inscribed on two stone tablets, the Ten Commandments, otherwise known as the Decalogue, are many things. There are multiple interpretations, but whether they are rules, instructions, or principles, the Ten Commandments will always be the core of God's law. God met Moses at the top of Mount Sinai to give him what would be one of the most important "documents" of all ... middle of paper ... because they are inevitably influencing everyone around us and the way society will move forward. Jews, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, etc., the Ten Commandments are currently a part of everyday life and affect everyone living in the United States of America, regardless of religion. It's not a question of what religion or God you believe in, it's a question of knowing that these signs are entirely a part of one's life. They measure or “measure” how our society is trending and how we are as people spiritually, ethically, morally, and all of the above. The Decalogue is one of the most extraordinary guides on life capable of truly changing our perspective and our world. Nobody is perfect, but even trying to follow these ten principles can and will lead you in the right direction. What began as a few biblical guidelines has truly impacted an entire nation.
