1. Introduction“I will be alive in the grave and, what is more, I will speak from it”MK GandhiThe essence of the above mentioned is largely the central idea of Vizai's work The Return of Gandhi. The work appropriately attacks the rot of the current political system. The show won the Nandi Award in 2002 awarded by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in the Best Drama category. This play was written much before the most popular hit films in Hindi like Lage raho Munnabhai and Telugu Sankardada MBBS were made on Gandhi's new arrival on Earth. Yama Dharma Raju….. Hell…… Gandhiji's arrival in Hell on invitation….. Happy mood in Hell due to Gandhiji's entry… Chitragupta's accusation (with fear) on Gandhi as a sinner…. Yama Dharma Raju's reluctance to condemn Gandhiji….. Chitra Gupta's reiteration in promoting Gandhi as a sinner as the one who is held responsible for bringing freedom to an immature nation…. for the race languishing in feudal society for ages marked by hero-worship and dynastic adulation, understands only dependence, not independence. The naive masses divided by caste and religion fail to appreciate the principles of equality. The people in general were illiterate, ignorant and innocent. The educated few were careless and irresponsible. Selfish and immoral rulers always indulged in power plays, encouraged factions and further divided people in the name of language, region, culture and the like. What kind of governance can the country expect from such rulers? The nation as a whole was thrown into a vicious circle. Giving independence to these people and power to such leaders is a natural test... middle of paper...The victims of the earthquake are effectively presented on stage. The murder of the leader who put this hundi and who convicted Gandhi for this crime is a crucial turning point in the game. Gandhi introducing himself, promoting his ideals and presenting his inner conscience to today's audience is crucial in the show. In fact, the playwright does everything to imagine, the situation would be like this if Gandhi really came to earth now. This could be an extraordinary test of the very idea of many to expect a savior like Gandhi to come and guide the present generation. By translating this work into different languages he was able to influence many.Works Cited1. MK Gandhi, Harijan 1947, 17 August Vol 892.
