This essay will be composed of several sources explaining the inappropriate behavior of an emergency nurse's response upon handover due to a male patient who was admitted to the emergency room in a state messy. As a Registered Nurse assigned to care for this patient, when assigning the patient's care to another Registered Nurse, the nurse responds inappropriately; stating, “I really hate taking care of the elderly – they are all senile and stink.” This essay will analyze the nurse's attitudes and beliefs that such comments are inappropriate, thus leaving a significant impact on nursing performance and care for this patient. A confused man presents to the Emergency Department in a disheveled and unkempt state, the nurse assigned to this patient recognizes the following; the man is in his sixties, confused and disoriented, anxious, has the smell of acetone on his breath, furthermore on examination he identifies a hematoma on the right side of the forehead while the patient also repeatedly states that he wants to urinate. As previously recognized, the nurse responded inappropriately, therefore having a significant impact on the care of this patient for the next shift, the nurse exhibited signs of negligence, therefore actions must be taken to keep the patient safe with the best possible care. As the elderly population is increasing, there are shortages in primary care due to negative attitudes among some nursing staff around the world (Hanson, 2014). With abandonment also increasing, becoming more common among the elderly due to the inability of the elderly to do many things, such as resist bullying; bullying can be classified as verbal or physical neglect (Help Guide, 2...... middle of paper ......if we affect your performance, you should contact the nurse in charge. Otherwise, the negative outcome Attitudes could also have a major impact on the quality of elderly patient care. As a nurse, stress can affect a person mentally, physically and emotionally, thus falling into both physical and emotional health categories. Emotional complication contributes enormously to a nurse's performance within healthcare. If the nurse is unable to put aside her physical or emotional problems, it is important that she seeks counseling, it is also important that the nurse takes a day of sick leave to resolve her situation must always be reported to 'responsible nurse to reduce the chances of negligence and to be able to provide the best possible care to the patient during hospitalization.
