According to the English dictionary patriarchy can be defined as a "form of social organization in which a male is the head of the family and descent, kinship and title are traced through the male line". Based on this definition one can easily identify or note that the male figure throughout history has been the dominant or superior being in a society, but is this still true today, or more importantly has it ever been true? Today the society around us is very different than it has ever been. Throughout history, humanity has struggled and suffered in a society that was and still is run primarily by one man. Patriarchal societies have existed throughout human history, however some may even argue that patriarchal society was created by God; Was there anything before patriarchal societies? According to the article on the creation of Patriachry it was suggested that there was a possibility that a matriarchal society had existed. According to the article creation of Patriachry it is suggested that today the patriarchal mode of thinking is embedded in our thought process and that we cannot exclude it, unless we become consciously aware of it. So, indicating that the only other possible prehistoric past of women, if we think about it, would be the reciprocal of Patriarchy, which would be matriarchy. In order to look at the past, we must first see what we are today, whether we are is just a product of historical progress related to gender roles in society that have been passed down from generation to generation or is it possible to see that some changes have taken place over time. According to the article, the author states that there is some evidence that provides us with the hypothesis that in the early stages of our civilization, hu...... middle of paper ......or struggle to gain their freedom , for the control of man. Although it is still unclear how man has gained so much control, one thing is certain that the male figure is losing his control, slowly but steadily. Patriarchy is slowly becoming a thing of the past and women are increasingly gaining equal control in society. Patriarchy, a term used to define the treatment of women, was most likely created by a man; it is becoming a thing of the past. For much of history, men have had control over nearly every aspect of women's lives, including the law and the status of women in our society. It can be said that today it is a thing of the past, but personally I don't think so, especially because religion states that the mane was and will always be higher than that of a woman, but what can be said is that women are definitely gaining freedom and slowly moving away from the old ways.
