Being a civilized human being these days seems simple enough until you start to really think about the idea of what a civilized human being really is. In my eyes, a civilized human being is one who follows the spoken and unspoken rules of his or her society. Spoken rules are much easier to follow because they are in the public domain, such as being kind to other human beings. Unspoken rules are much harder to follow because you have to learn them from the experience of other people on earth. Having honor in yourself and knowing how to act in the right situations can be a little more difficult than simply being kind to others. A vital part of being what we consider a “civilized human being” is being kind to other people, because being a civilized human being requires interacting with other people. If we are not kind to other human beings we will not get any human interaction, which can drive you crazy. In “Confucius on Behavior” it is stated that “Confucius said that to gossip and spread rumors is to abandon virtue” (Confucius on Behavior). When you gossip and spread rumors you are extremely rude and not only are you abandoning virtue, you are abandoning any respect you have for the people you are gossiping about. Respecting the people around you is also vital to being a civilized human being because if you disrespect other people you won't get any respect, which can lead to your entire community not being liked. Another thought Confucius had was: “A gentleman should be slow in speaking and quick in action.” I think being a civilized human being is important because you can talk about what you intend to do to be a kinder person and be kind to other people, but if you act instead of talking you will get closer to the perfect image of what we think... ... half of the paper ...... so much so that following the unspoken rules rather than just following the spoken ones, those are easily found. The unspoken rules are taught to you and are harder to achieve. The main unspoken rule that I find important is knowing when to act in the right situation because if you don't you can easily be taken for a joke. Make it your first priority to know when to do right, then be kind, and then honor yourself for being a civilized human being!
