Sewage discharge is a major component of water pollution, contributing to oxygen demand and nutrient loading of water bodies, promoting toxic algae blooms and leading to a destabilized aquatic ecosystem. This problem is exacerbated in areas where wastewater treatment systems are simple and inefficient. Oxidation pond facilities are popular wastewater treatment methods for small communities due to their low construction and operating costs. In this study, the oxidation pond having the capacity to treat standard wastewater influent A was analyzed to better understand the efficiency of the wastewater oxidation pond. The effluent standard has already been implemented by INDAH WATER KONSORTIUM. The purpose of the standard is to ensure that the discharged effluent meets the requirements of the respective conditions of the INDAH WATER KONSORTIUM set. Oxidation ponds are constructed as an aerobic and anaerobic pond system where wastewater treatment occurs naturally without the addition of chemicals. They usually consist of serial shallow ponds that are used for simple secondary treatment of sewage effluent. Within an oxidation pond heterotrophic bacteria degrade organic matter in the wastewater which results in the production of cellular material and minerals. Their production promotes the growth of algae in the oxidation pond. The growth of algal populations allows further decomposition of organic matter producing oxygen. The production of this oxygen replenishes the oxygen used by heterotrophic bacteria which breaks down mainly into nutrients and carbon dioxide. Oxidation ponds usually allow the process of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), it is the process in which the amount of oxygen required by bacteria... .... middle of paper ......ate odors that they leave behind of itself a faint marsh smell. After the mechanical aeration process, the effluent becomes stable and allows constant BOD values. With the help of the authorities, septic tanks were made necessary to protect private property from damage. Laboratory results have shown that there is a high degree of purification after the implementation of oxidation basins.1.2 Scope of the studyIn this study, an attempt was made to evaluate the levels of some water quality parameters such as pH, demand biological oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, Turbidity, total solids and hardness in oxidation tank for sewage treatment of Taman Megah, Cheras. The experimental analysis for both lagoon and effluent inputs was evaluated and compared to the effluent standard established by INDAH WATER KONSORTIUM to evaluate the performance of the wastewater oxidation basin.
