When World War II ended, the Nuremberg Trials began to hold Nazi criminals accountable for crimes committed during the war. Since the four world powers could not put the entire country on trial, nor did everyone in the country take part in the criminal acts, 24 people were chosen to be put on trial. The men indicted are believed to have held positions of power. These men were thought to be Hitler's guide men during the war. It is believed that these 24 men not only followed orders, but took advantage of their power within the community. As the court met to build the cases against these men, many questions were discussed regarding treatment, how and where the trial would take place, and what rights these criminals were entitled to. Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson was charged with building his defense team and guiding it to and through a fair trial. He appealed to the leaders of Britain, France and the Soviet Union to join his defense team. Throughout this film, there were several instances of unethical and immoral activities among the characters. As the film progressed, relationships developed, mistreatment occurred, and of course, the crimes depicted show the unethical acts. In this document, these acts will be discussed in detail and options for correct action will be presented. As 24 men were rounded up to be jailed, questions were raised about how they were treated and whether their rights were not guaranteed to them. Many have wondered how men can be charged with past crimes (ex post facto law). Some of these men were indicted for crimes that allegedly occurred several years before the indictment. EXAMPLE When the decision was made... middle of the paper... he pointed out that there are still many missing among the rubble. One MP believes that this problem can be solved simply by using a disinfectant. Destruction was not the focus of the visit, as is evident in this scene. As previously mentioned, Jackson has difficulty keeping calm during the trial. Jackson is aware that Goering has confidence in himself and his beliefs, however Jackson is unsure of himself and his abilities to carry out what he has been accused of. Goering is able to manipulate the situation and beats Jackson with every question asked. As stated above, it was only when the defense team used Holocaust videos with torture shown so vividly that Jackson regained the upper hand in the trial. He was tested time and time again throughout the film with his handling of Goering and the other prisoners, but he was able to find the strength to succeed..
