The film Saving Mr Banks starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson is a co-production of Australia, Great Britain and the United States that combines the comedy and drama genres. This film tells the story of Walter Disney who convinces the writer of Merry Poppins to sell the rights to produce the film. There are two plots within this film: Pamela Travers' autobiographical memories in Australia and the persuasion that takes place in Los Angeles and London. Within the story it is explained why it took 20 years for Disney to purchase the production rights. The scene where Pamela Travers arrives in America and meets her driver and Walter Disney demonstrates various aspects of cross-cultural communication. In this article I will argue that the cross-cultural differences between Americans and British in the film Saving Mr Banks are shaping the relationships between the main characters. This occurs through different use of language and differences in cultural background. Both Americans and English speak the English language, however the characters face some challenges in verbal communication. So American English and British English shape the speaker's identity. The British writer underlines the importance of her title. She is also very cautious about using names. He believes that strangers, acquaintances and friends should address each other differently. This shows that English is a verbal culture. The formal address is important because it reveals the intricate class system in English society. When the driver meets the writer, he greets her using her initials and last name. She thinks it's inappropriate and corrects him: "-It's not Mrs. PL, it's Mrs." It seems that, taking into consideration the language that Pam... in the center of the paper...
