1. Compare and contrast the aliens in “War of the Worlds” and “Mars is Heaven.” Remember, when you compare and contrast, you do so to prove a point. While alien encounters are a common theme in science fiction, the aliens of "War of the Worlds" and "Mars is Heaven" show how similar, yet drastically different the idea of aliens can be. Some aliens are humanoid, with characteristics similar to those of humans. Other aliens look more like insects or deep-sea animals. These tend to be scarier, due to the air of mystery these creatures tend to have. In "The War of the Worlds", the narrator describes the alien as having oily brown skin, a rounded head and what could be described as a visage, with a lipless mouth quivering beneath the eyes. He says the creature convulses and twitches. This concept is foreign and rather scary to people, because it usually indicates an illness or health problem.
