The drinking age in America is twenty-one. Many people believe that this age is too old, while others support it and believe that it is an appropriate age. This is a very debatable topic. In the United States the drinking age has waxed and waned, and as recently as 1984, it reached twenty-one. This great conflict began when the United States gradually tried to ban alcohol for every person, regardless of age. They succeeded and this was called National Prohibition. It only lasted until 1933, but when it started, the Constitution got the 18th Amendment. This amendment prohibited the sale of liquor. Soon, this amendment was repealed in 1933 by another amendment, which made alcoholic beverages legal. After this amendment went into effect, individual states began setting age limits for drinking alcohol. Some chose the age limit to be 18 and others chose it to be 21. Gradually, every state became 21 as the age limit. I believe this age should be lowered to 18. I think this is because you legally become an adult when you're 18 and I think drinking is a big part of it...
