What is society? Society is a highly structured system of human organization for large-scale community life that normally provides protection. A national identity for its members in a group. These groups are classified as lower class, middle class, and upper class. Each of these groups changes over time. Never stay the same. From 1865 to the 1930s, American society underwent enormous changes. What do you do? What are you wearing? Who are you dating? Where do you live. All these questions and statements impact the society you live in, or better yet; Which American society do you belong to? But we're looking at American society as a whole. See what American society was like between the years 1865 to 1930. American society from 1865 to 1910. This time period focused on immigrants, the urban world, and daily life in cities. Ten million immigrants arrived in the United States. Most immigrants came from northwestern Europe. These people were classified as old immigrants. In 1890, America arrived with new immigrants. Around 60% came from abroad, 70% from Southern and Northern Europe. They arrived from Ellis Island, New York or Angel Island, San Francisco. Settling in crowded and diverse cities. Close to their low-paid jobs. Of course, not all Native Americans like them coming. Native citizens saw immigrants as a threat. Due to the fact that immigrants were taking jobs, because they would work their whole lives. Allowing immigrants to rob them of jobs. Forcing the government to impose a ban on the number of immigrants who can enter America. More and more children are receiving an education. The flourishing of music, sport and the arts. Things to occupy people when they weren't at work. Then, the company collapsed in the 1930s. Because of the Great Depression, most of the social improvements we made declined very quickly, because people weren't spending their money. Causing social classes to clash. Making us different back in time. From 1865 to 1930, American society changed a lot over time. Sometimes it changes for the better, other times not so much.
