Unemployed Veterans Veterans are considered the strongest people in the United States. After serving, they constantly face daily struggles such as disability and unemployment. After serving in a branch of the United States military, many veterans have difficulty finding work. While there are sometimes obstacles that must be overcome for veterans to work, they are often skilled workers and deserve the opportunity to succeed in the civilian workplace. Although unemployment rates for veterans are decreasing, there are still too many veterans who have difficulty finding work. The unemployment rate for all female veterans was 7% in July 2012 and fell to 6% in July 2013 (Misra). This is lower than the unemployment rate for post-9/11 veterans, who are more likely to remain unemployed. The post-9/11 veteran unemployment rate fell from nearly 12% last January to 7% in December. However, both rates are higher than those applied to all veterans. This rate was 7% last January and 5.5% in December (Maffucci). This is an impressive figure, but it must continue to improve. The unemployment rate for veterans is still quite high compared to that of all Americans. The overall unemployment rate in America was nearly 7% in December (Gilliland). Even though the veteran unemployment rate is lower than the national unemployment rate, there are many veterans who are part of the United States workforce. As of October 2013, 81% of post-9/11 veterans were part of the U.S. workforce (Starr). This means they could work or were already working.Every day more and more veterans……middle of paper……loyalty is such a growing problem in America that people don't notice the talent (Maffucci). Why are veterans seen as the strongest people in America, they should be seen as talented. “Veterans have proven they can stay employed. They demonstrate stability, knowledge and team ethics” (Gilliland). All of these are characteristics that employers always look for in an employee, whether they are veterans or not. Veterans are quite similar to regular employees, so they do not need to have problems with employment. For all these reasons, veterans looking for work should be hired. Veterans are strong enough to overcome adversity and have enough skills to be good employees. They deserve to be hired for their commitment to serving our country and risking their lives for our protection. Their employment should be protected and guaranteed.
