There seems to be widespread interest in whether or not extrasensory perception or ESP exists. But what exactly is ESP? Let's answer this question first. ESP is a sensory process separate from the senses of sight, hearing, taste, hearing, and touch (Carroll, Robert T., 1994-2010). Delves into the realms of clairvoyance, telepathy, precognition, and clairaudience (Carroll, Robert T., 1994-2010). What does this mean exactly? Well, let's look at them individually first and then move to both sides of the debate. On one side of the debate there are those who argue that ESP does not exist, on the other there are those who argue that ESP does exist. Both sides also say they have evidence. I believe ESP can exist. I've read research on both sides of this debate and have come to the conclusion that there are things that happen in the world that we can't fully explain. You have to ask this question, just because I can't explain it means it doesn't exist? One part of ESP is telepathy. Telepathy is basically mind reading, or a direct connection between two minds, and also a direct communication between two minds (Carroll, Robert T. 1994-2010). This basically means that if you have the ability to use telepathy you can look into someone's mind and know what they are thinking and possibly be able to transmit your thoughts into their minds. You also have clairvoyance, also called remote viewing, and it is the ability to see things beyond the ability of natural vision (Carroll, Robert T., 1994-2010). So, with this ability one would also be able to not only predict the future, but also tell what happened in the past in vivid detail. This ability is also known as psychic ability and a… paper stimulus… and non-ESP stimuli, and their findings were that the brain responded to both the images they had taken (News Staff, 2008) This would also constitute evidence supporting the opposing view that ESP does not exist. I intend to go further in finding evidence on both sides and from there develop my own opinion on the topic and then articulate it. Works CitedNews Staff, Science Blogging, Is ESP Real?
