Evil is a trait you see in everyday life, in movies, plays, video games, and books like Othello and The Lion King. In Othello, Shakespeare perceived Iago as amoral with the power to persuade people around him to believe his lies. A similar role was played by Scar in Disney's The Lion King, who became king by manipulating and deceiving others. Scar along with Iago was the main antagonist in Disney's The Lion King and Shakespeare's Othello. The two villains share similar characteristics and qualities, but not many will be an advantage. In Shakespeare's Othello, Iago is manipulative, deceitful, and committed to betrayal, just as Scar did in Disney's Lion King. Manipulation can be defined as a deliberate thought process, not a behavior, but a thought. A cognitive, astute planning that sets a project in motion, an idea that we transform into reality. Iago and Scar shared a manipulative quality, giving them the ultimate power to shape their accomplice and manipulate everyone around them. In Shakespeare’s Othello, Iago was clever, starting his revenge plan by convincing Roderigo to “Follow wars, defeat your favor with a usurped beard. I say, put the money in your bag” (II.i.329-330). Iago never had a real reason for his actions, but he tells Roderigo “Despise me. If I don't." Referring to the hatred he has against Othello for letting him pass for lieutenant (Ii8-9). In Disney's The Lion King, Scar uses three hyenas named Shenzi, Banzai and Ed to kill the king, saying they "prepare yourselves / For the king's death" (The Lion King). Iago manipulates Roderigo into having false hopes of winning Desdemona's heart with his gold and money. Scar uses the hyenas as a means to overthrow the kingdom and become.. .... a medium of paper...... by personality and characteristics, both are considered villains of their time and this thanks to Shakespeare and his brilliant writing and mind Iago can be quoted "This is certainly true of Iago , which is an accurate portrayal of a psychopath" (West). Shakespeare doesn't stop there and will be part of many more to come. Works Cited Allers, Roger, Dir. The Lion King. Dir. Roger Allers." buena vista home video: 1994, Film.Shakespeare, William.
