PersonalityThe click of the stairs woke the mother. She quickly grabbed her dress and went down the stairs. When he turned on the light, to his surprise, his two daughters were dressed and ready to go. With stunned expressions they both turned and immediately knew that they would remain Earthlings for life. The youngest, Belen, cried full of remorse, asking her mother for forgiveness. The eldest, Esmeralda; he remained still, with his head held high in the air and without tears in his eyes. How is it possible that two sisters who grew up in the same house with the same love react differently to their mother's punishment? The two sisters might have lived together, eaten together, and played together, but those two sisters had different personalities. Personality is defined as an individual's unique and relatively consistent pattern of thinking, feeling, and behaving (Hockenbury, 2014). There are various theories that try to explain why people have certain personalities or why they behave in different ways. These theories can be grouped into four potential groups; psychoanalytic, humanistic, sociocognitive and trait perspectives. There are many tests to evaluate a person's personality and present its advantages and disadvantages (Hockenbury, 2014). Many theories have been introduced in the study of personalities. Albert Bandura developed social cognitive theory. This theory emphasizes the social origins of thought and action, but also emphasizes the active cognitive process and the human capacity for self-regulation. Many parents will believe in this theory. Parents will determine their children's behavior based on who or what surrounds them. For example, when a child dances a certain way, he or she may reflect that dance of someone he or she has seen. Trait theory identifies, describes... middle of paper... from two examiners it is likely that they will not obtain the same results. The two sisters who were caught sneaking out of the house were both punished differently. The youngest was punished with her mother's silence. Belen's personality made her feel guilty as her mother ignored her every time she tried to talk to her. The older one on the other hand needed more than just the silent treatment, her mother took away her television privileges and time alone in her room. Their mother knew how to evaluate each daughter's personality and what would make her learn a lesson. Every personality is different and identifies how a person will react to different situations. Belen and Esmeralda grew up in the same house but they absorbed their mother's teachings differently and therefore that is why they have different personalities. Works Cited Hockenbury, 2014
