THE NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE National Health Insurance is a new health financing system designed to cater for all South Africans of all races and genders in all locations across the country. National health insurance was introduced in 2011 after numerous financing systems introduced before had not achieved their objectives, such as the most recent one being social health insurance, while others never had the chance to act, such as the commission of inquiry into national health insurance (1935) and the National Health Service Commission (1942 – 1944). The main aim of the NHI is to eliminate the current unsustainable system in which those in great need of medical care receive the least and most of the attention is given to those at the top. in terms of socioeconomic class, which is irrational because they constitute the minority of the country's population and the majority of the population is the lower class. The current healthcare system is divided into two main sectors which are the public and private sectors. The public sector is funded by money derived from taxes paid by all working citizens and services are open to all citizens free of charge however there is limited amount of service offered per individual and in case the individual is not satisfied with the amount of service offered to him, he is free to access more services with funds from his own pocket, which becomes a big problem taking into account the fact that the people who turn to the public sector for better health belong to the lower working class and may not be able able to afford to pay for better health, as their income may not be enough to cover their lifestyle and medical expenses. The private sector is also funded from the same budget as the public sector... middle of paper... so they pay for their own health, it could be argued that if the people falling into the private sector are people who can afford better healthcare then there is nothing wrong with that and you shouldn't compare them to people who get healthcare for free, you can't expect a miner to get the same healthcare as the mine owner. The NHI: uses public services or private sector providers, but payment comes from a single government-run insurance program to which every citizen contributes. Since there is no marketing need, no financial reason to deny claims, and no profit, these universal insurance programs tend to be cheaper and much simpler. Single payer tends to have significant market power to negotiate lower prices and control costs by limiting medical services. they will pay or by making patients wait for treatment.
