There has been much discussion recently about urban sprawl due to its negative impacts on society and the natural environment. However, looking at the objectives of the sustainable city project, it seems clear that urban expansion can represent an obstacle. Doubting this, I asked myself “to what extent is urban sprawl a problem for the sustainable city goal”? In this essay I will try to explain the objectives of the sustainable city as well as the process of urban expansion and its limits and relate how urban expansion directly affects these objectives. To begin with, the sustainable city is a project with the aim of limiting all precarious human activities that could lead to the destruction of sources of life or resources. This study, in my opinion, was born as a consequence of the increase in population on a global scale, with the aim of creating an ideal city in which all civilians can live within their borders and share these concepts: • “For our future common, establish the concept of sustainable development as the backbone of global economic policy. • It should aim to meet current needs without compromising future generations • It should positively direct our development in favor of the world's majority, the poor.” Richard Rogers' Sustainable development should be seen in social, cultural, economic and environmental terms. It states that the social and environmental crises are interconnected, that we must pursue development while respecting the process of nature's renewal and economically establish the basis for the consumption of resources. On the other hand, the movement of residents from the wealthy to the outskirts of cities has always been a feature of urbanization, and a controversy over contamination and commuting....... middle of paper ......natural increase of the population, cannot be stopped but can be regulated, aimed at supporting human well-being and equality, as well as preserving the natural environment. To conclude, urban sprawl according to standard models impacts sustainable city goals due to the environmental damage, the disparities it slowly shapes, and the unique headspace afforded to developers.
