Sekhmet's story is violent and bloodthirsty. Sekhmet is a goddess who intended to destroy everything evil in the world. However, she became so violent that she couldn't stop ruining everything. Ra, her father realized that Sekhmet could not continue what she was doing. Therefore, Ra dyed all the wine in a lake red and deceived his daughter, drinking all the wine to calm her down. “…She once described to me the moment she felt she had come to understand the emotional power of what she called the dark Goddess. He had begun drawing the lion-headed Egyptian Sekhmet, who he described as an 'aspect of death' in Egyptian mythology, and drew him surrounded by flames. (Luhrmann, 128) The author told us the story of an artist friend of hers. Her friend Chris described Sekhmet as the “dark goddess.” Hence, the figure of Sekhmet is terrifying and by using this figure, the pharaohs were easy to take advantage of this type of myths and threaten their populations. In ancient Egypt, mythology is an important way to govern the kingdom. Everyone in the kingdom was obsessed and controlled by their deities. “Nor can there be any doubt that for many ordinary people religion must have meant nothing more than a literal acceptance of the mythological gods.” (Tobin, 169) From this author's diary the importance of religion. Furthermore, religion and beliefs were the tool used by the pharaohs to control people. “The ancient Egyptians had neither a philosophical nor theological mindset, and therefore spiritual and religious values required concrete and anthropomorphic expression.” (Tobin, 169) Furthermore, many deities were human-like, which is also another proof that pharaohs were able to use this type of figure to control people. They can use this human-like figure as an advantage to tell people that they were gods/goddesses. Therefore the region has a very important role in Egyptian
