The first thing I would promote about equity is to start in the classroom because that is where I as a teacher would start first. Additionally, teachers are supposed to be advocates for students, so what better place to promote equity than in school. Being a teacher is the best way to promote equity for students with disabilities, especially special education teachers. However, for me, I would like to let my students know that it is our responsibility to treat our classmates with respect, regardless of whether they have disabilities. We should treat them as if they were our friends. They should have been able to join the lesson with us. Students with disabilities are like us. There was one site I observe that was a school only for students with disabilities. During my observation I ask the teacher about the school and notice that there was another school next door. This school was for misbehaving students. I found that it was unusual for students to be around students with disabilities. However, the teacher said it was a good thing. I asked him why and he said that during Halloween, the school usually hosts a harvest festival for the students and they ask the "bad" students to come and help.
