Love at First SightAs people say, "love is the strangest and most illogical thing in the world". Love itself is unreasonable and emerges when the time is most unexpected. In this world there are many different types of love; one-sided love, mutual love, love for family or friends, love at first sight, etc. While most people experience every type of love that exists between men, only the lucky few get to experience love at first sight. This is why most people don't believe in such a thing; they don't see it as true love, but as the creation of lust, infatuation and devastation held in their hearts. On the other hand, some people argue that love at first sight is possible and that it is the purest of all love that exists. In the novel Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight through their actions, their backgrounds, and through their use of language. Shakespeare convinces us of this instantaneous and mutual attraction through the exchange of a look, a kiss and touching each other's hands. During the Capulet party, where Romeo and Juliet met for the first time, as soon as Romeo laid eyes on Juliet, he immediately fell in love with her; to him it doesn't matter who he is. “Oh, she teaches the torches to burn bright,” murmured Romeo (1.5.44)! This means both that its beauty is brighter than the flame of any torch, and that just by its presence the entire room is illuminated. Furthermore, Romeo says, “Has my heart loved hitherto? Deny it, O sight, for I have never seen true beauty until this night” (1.5.52-53). This makes it clear that what he had with Rosaline was not love. Romeo's love for Rosaline was swift, reckless, and one-sided. She does not reciprocate the love he feels for her, and is therefore R...... middle of paper...... loved her. These dictions used by Shakespeare showed how in love they were in a short period of time. They love each other enough to abandon their families and disobey their parents if it meant they could be together. This love is not a simple crush on another person for a week, but a true love that you have for another person. In most cases, love takes a long time to grow and develop. However, Romeo and Juliet persistently fell in love after making eye contact. They know they are made for each other and couldn't stay away from each other even for a minute. Although Romeo and Juliet fell in love at first sight and have only known each other for a very short time, their love for each other is like that of an old married couple; more if possible. Their love for each other is evident through the actions they took, their backgrounds and dictions.
