The Internet is filled with numerous websites, but social networking websites are a favorite among the citizens of the United States. Americans spend as much as 20% of their time on social networking sites on the computer and 30% on mobile devices (Popkin). In 2009, the United States had 245 million Internet users and the number has only continued to grow (United States). It is clear that it is not just the United States that uses the Internet or social networking sites. Pew Research Centers conducted a study and found statistics about adults on the Internet. 71% have a Facebook account, 18% use Twitter, 17% post photos on Instagram and 21% use Pinterest (Social). This data does not even include people under the age of 18 and there are many teenagers who participate in these social networks. It is now clear that many people are involved in social networks. All these people are part of a society that has the ability to change and be changed by social networks. Social networks and society are closely related because both are created and shaped by each other. SOCIAL NETWORKING COMPANIES IMPROVE SOCIETY Social networking site creators generally created their website to facilitate communication within society and are still trying to improve communication across their companies. . Instagram, Tumblr and Facebook are all social networks and companies that help society with communication.
