According to Webster's dictionary, the definition of parenting is "the process of raising and educating a child from birth to adulthood." Have you ever thought about how different you would be if your parents had raised you differently? Everyone grew up differently, so we will all be different types of parents. Maybe we appreciate the way our parents raised and disciplined us, so we will use those techniques when we become parents. On the other hand, we may despise the way our parents raised and disciplined us, so we will create our own techniques based on what we would have preferred as children when it came to raising our children. As a 43-year-old mother, I am proud of the way my parents raised and disciplined me, and I am proud of the way I raised my daughter and my grandchildren. As a parent, I have constantly asked myself, “why is parenting so hard?” At one point, I wondered if a mother should automatically know how to handle and raise a child if this is her first child. There is conflict when it comes to parenting. There is a significant difference between a child's biological needs and the cultural needs placed by society. For starters, we can't say that any particular way of parenting is "the right way." Every parent should trust their parenting techniques as the best as long as there is no abuse involved. Permissive parenting, authoritarian parenting and authoritative parenting are the three main parenting styles. Each parenting style is different and produces different types of results. The next paragraphs will provide an overview of these techniques and we will be able to compare them with each other. According to research, Mr. and Mrs. Harsh-Heart can be classified as authoritarian...... middle of paper ... ...authoritarian, authoritative and permissive. These parenting styles are classified based on communication, child expectations, discipline strategies, warmth, and nurturance. Based on research, there is a link between how children are raised and their behavior. The authoritarian style is the most severe, where demands are high and punishment is strictly enforced. Authoritative parents enforce the rules, but are emotionally supportive. They will listen to their children's opinions and allow them to negotiate. Permissive parents have a “non-discipline” policy and will never resort to punishing their children, but more importantly bribing them with food and gifts to behave well. Parents play an important role in the development of their children. Whatever parenting you choose, you will have a positive or negative impact on your child's development. Choose wisely.
